Following the event, we have written a brand new script for our short movie "The Graveyard," in the script, there is a scene that requires a cooking montage of Pho. As the director of the film, it is my job to research more about this cooking filming field: what to record, which angle I want, and what kind of shot I need. And as an editor, I also need to know how to edit a nice cooking montage. That's the reason why I carried out this research.
The way I will research is to look for references and inspiration from famous cooking content creators and also look for guidelines online.
INSPIRATION/REFERENCE:
Joshua Weissman:
Joshua is one of my favorite YouTubers when talking about cooking content creators because of his excellent skills, knowledge, and humor.
In every video, he ends with a B-roll, which is similar to a montage, and I think I can learn from his B-roll for my cooking montage.
He has two videos of him cooking Pho: this video and this video.
Here is some of his B-roll:
Nick DiGiovanni:
He is another famous YouTuber that I like; he got into the final round of the American's Master Chef
His YouTube Shorts have a lot of fast-cut scenes of cooking with many angles and a wide variety of shot
However, the only problem is that YouTube Shorts are mostly in phone-screen size and are vertical (portrait), while my movie is horizontal. I will also need to watch and get inspiration from his whole video.
He gave a video of him cooking Pho
Here are some of his content:
Samseats:
Another famous YouTuber about cooking that I enjoy watching
He has a lot of YouTube Shorts with cooking scenes fast cut in a very satisfying way, and I can learn from it
He gave a short that he cooks Pho
FURTHER ANALYSIS/RESEARCH
Cooking B-roll:
I see that B-roll kind of video is what I am looking toward; that's why I am doing research about some examples of that kind of videos
Here are some that I found pretty interesting:
CONCLUSION (how this research will help)
After researching carefully, I conclude that I will choose the B-roll style for my cooking montage; the editing guidelines will be discussed further in another blog post.
