Music always plays an essential role in every movie. It helps to create the mood of the scene, and music can be used as a storytelling method or sometimes simply there to entertain the viewers. Knowing how important music is, as an editor, I decided to research the music I wanted to use in my short movie.
"Music in film serves several functions. Among them, it helps shape emotional responses, creates a rhythm to scenes and segments, and comments on the action. Music is often crucial to the experience of a scene and, in some cases, becomes as iconic as the movies themselves."

WHY MUSIC IS SO POWERFUL
Emotional impact: Music can evoke strong feelings in the audience. It can enhance the tension, joy, sadness, fear, or excitement and create a deeper connection to the story and characters.
Setting the tone: The right music can set the mood and tone for a scene or an entire film. It can establish the period, the location, and the overall atmosphere, enhancing the storytelling and immersing the audience in the cinematic experience.
Enhancing storytelling: Music can enhance the narrative by underscoring important moments, highlighting character development, or guiding the audience's emotional journey. It can provide insight into the characters' thoughts and feelings and convey messages beyond words.
Creating a memorable experience: Memorable movie scores or soundtracks can become iconic and forever associated with the film. The music becomes a part of the audience's memory and can evoke nostalgia, reminding them of the film long after seeing it.

HOW WILL MUSIC BE USED IN THE GRAVEYARD:
Within my short movie, there are not too many speeches and lines (most of the scenes are silent), so music plays a significant role in the short film. With the primary mood of the movie is sadness, the music also needs to deliver that sadness to the viewers to enhance their experience with the movie.
Some examples are Laufey's music and D4vd's music, ... I want a primarily instrumental beat with as few electro components as possible. That said, instrumental Lofi music can be what I need for the short movie. Not only that, but I think background music with just some single piano notes would be another suitable choice.
I also need a piece of bright and happy music when Annie meets the stranger. For this part, music with many high notes, drums, kicks, and snares can bring positive energy to that scene.
At the movie's end, I need some audio to create fear and creepiness. Classical music is one of my favorites when it comes to those feelings. Some violins, saxophones with piano, and cellos create an old, strange, and creepy feeling. Furthermore, adding some dissonance to the music also gives the music a sense of horror.
