[Shooting] EVALUATION _ SHOOTING DAY 03

Updated: Mar 1, 2024

BEFORE READING: Check out the shooting plan for day 03 HERE

In general, I can proudly say that shooting day 03 is the day that we have made the most progress of this project (in terms of filming scenes).

This is because we managed to film all the scenes in the shooting plan. Furthermore, we have even completed those scenes before the expected ending time.

There are many reasons for this success. First, on shooting day 03, we got another camera (Sony A7 III), aside from my camera (Nikon D750) from the school. Although this may create some differences in the color, we believe these differences can be fixed in post-production with editing software. In addition, the Sony A7 III has four batteries, which avoids the problem we were having on the first shooting day.

Secondly, thanks to the effort, determination, and focus the crew put into that shooting day. We all wake up early in the morning to prepare and film for the whole day, from the morning to the afternoon. Our lunch break was only about 1 hour, and we did not postpone the work at any time. We understood that the faster we get this done, the less work we must rush.

Thirdly, thanks to the help from my parents. The filming took place in my house, and knowing that we needed to film a Pho cooking montage, my parents decided to cook Pho that same day so that all the ingredients and the setting were ready. My brother also agreed to let us use his room as the shooting location. I appreciate their support.

However, there are still some problems. Due to some issues, the fake blood that we ordered could not be delivered by that day, meaning that we needed to plan for another shooting day to shoot the scene which has Fish n Chips cooking in the background and on the kitchen floor a hand full of blood on and around it. Also, some of the shots took much longer than we expected because I wanted to change some shots, difference from what we had planned, and because of some minor mistakes that my crew and I made.

For the next occasion, I will request props to be ordered at least one week before the shooting day (unless it is a special case, e.g., fresh meat, flowers, etc.) As a director, I should have planned the idea for the shot more carefully and thoughtfully to avoid changing a lot while filming, slowing down the progress.

In conclusion, thanks to this shooting day, we have finished about 9/10 parts of this project.
